In accordance with EU and National law Trucks and Buses must be fitted with recording devices known as Tachographs. They measure driving times and rest periods of drivers. It also records distance travelled and vehicle speed. Each driver has their own personal Tachograph card that they must use when driving a Truck or Bus. This ensures that the laws governing rest times and driver hours are adhered to. The RSA is the governing body over Tachograph inspections and can issue penalties and fines to any driver not adhering to these strict codes of conduct.

At McCormacks Auto Centre we are accredited by the NSAI (National Standards Authority of Ireland) to install and calibrate Analogue and Digital Tachographs and our dedicated staff are fully trained by Continental VDO in their use and operation. The requirements for Tachograph Calibration are as follows:

Analogue: Calibration once every 6 years & an Inspection once every 2 years.

Digital: A digital Tachograph is calibrated every 2 years from the date of installation.

There are circumstances where you may be exempt from having a Tachograph fitted or calibrated in your vehicle. A full list of exemptions can be viewed on the RSA website (http://www.rsa.ie/en/RSA/Professional-Drivers/Tachograph-cards/Exemptions/). However, if your Tachograph works through the speed limiter you will be required to have the Tachograph calibrated, regardless of this exemption.
