1. Do I need to prepare my vehicle for the test?
Yes. Your vehicle including underbody should be reasonably clean with hub caps removed prior to arriving at the test centre

2. What do I need to bring to the test centre?
The person bringing your vehicle for the test is required to present photo I.D. such as a drivers licence or passport. These are the only accepted forms of I.D. Your pass statement will not be issued unless you provide I.D. You may also need to bring any documents associated with the vehicle such as modification reports or seat belt certificates. The Certificate of Vehicle Registration is no longer required.

3. How much does the test cost?

4. I’ve passed the test! What happens now?
You will be issued with a Pass Statement from us. You will receive your Certificate of Road Worthiness from the RSA in the post within 3-5 working days. You can tax your vehicle with the Pass Statement.

5. My vehicle failed the CVRT. Will I have to pay for a retest?
You will have to pay for a retest if your vehicle requires an equipment retest. Equipment retests include any checks on brakes, suspension, emissions, or headlight alignment. It is printed on your fail report if you are required to pay for the retest.

6. Do I need to book my retest within 21 days or bring my vehicle back for retest within 21days?
You need to bring your vehicle back within 21 days from the day of the full test. The onus is on you to book it back within the time frame given. You will not be contacted by us. We advise that you get your repairs done and book it back in for retest as soon as possible.

7. I have missed my retest date. What happens now?
Your vehicle will need to sit a full test again and you will be required to pay for a full test.

8. I failed my retest. Do I get another 21days?
No. Your vehicle needs to be back for retest 21 days from your original full test date.

9. My CVRT is expired. Will I still get a full year on my cert?
No. For example, if your CVRT expired on 10/05/14 and you tested your vehicle on the 10/10/14 your certificate will last until the 10/05/15. This was introduced to ensure there are no advantages to letting your CVRT expire and to encourage people to get their vehicles tested on time.

10. My CVRT is expired over a year. What happens now?
You can still get your vehicle tested. At the moment any vehicles that CVRT is expired more than 1 year is receiving a CVRT for 6 months. You will have to get your vehicle tested again in 6 months.

11. I have just bought an imported commercial vehicle. What do I need to do to get it tested?
After you have cleared your vehicle you can bring it to us for the CVRT. Please make it clear it is an imported vehicle & bring your Vehicle Import Receipt with you. You will need Irish number plates for the test. We can make them for you if required.

12. Can I tax my vehicle without the CVRT?
No you cannot tax your vehicle without a valid CVRT.

13. Can I tax my vehicle straight away after the test?
It can take up to 24 hours for your Pass statement to be put up on the Tax Office’s computer system. You will not be able to tax your vehicle unless it is on their system.
